Grace Place Church is a place where people can meet Jesus, engage in life giving community, and where everyone is welcome. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts, and use them for God’s glory.

Our story
Twenty three years of grace
In December 2002, the Lord began dealing with Pastor Arthur Shadwick’s heart about launching a church to serve the needs of the Northern New Jersey region. After months of prayer, fasting, and preparation, Grace Place Church (formerly The Gathering Church) launched in November 2003.
For twenty years we served Bergen County, known for community care celebrations like mobile food pantries, back to school supplies, and family resources. Today we call 319 Passaic Street in Garfield home, carrying that same heart for our neighbors into a new city.

Pastor Arthur Shadwick
A prophetic speaker ministering nationally at conferences, revivals, and churches, Pastor Arthur has delivered faith filled messages that connect with people from every walk of life for well over two decades. A man of vision, he ignites others toward holistic transformation through principles founded on the Word of God.
Pastor Arthur served as a Protestant Chaplain and later as Director of Campus Ministry for Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus. He serves as Chief Operations Officer of Bethel Gospel Global Assemblies International under Bishop Dr. Carlton T. Brown, is a member of the Interfaith Advisory Council under the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, and is a licensed facilitator for Prepare/Enrich. He is also the cofounder of Sticky Marriage conferences, a practical one day event where couples invest in and strengthen their marriage.
Pastor Arthur’s ministry of transformation extends to the whole person: body, soul, and spirit. Having lost over 300 pounds himself, he is the founder of MyPurposeFit, a Faith-Driven fitness and wellness coaching ministry. As an ISSA certified Master Trainer and Nutrition Coach, he helps busy men and women align their health with their God given assignment, so their physical condition no longer stands in the way of their purpose. Through his signature approach of “Alignment Over Perfection,” he equips people to steward their bodies as an act of faith and to live fully present for their families, their callings, and the Kingdom.
Pastor Arthur lives in Morris County, New Jersey with his wife, Reverend Alverna M. A. Shadwick, and their daughter, Annique Madison-Grace.

The Bible
The sole basis for our belief is the Bible, which is uniquely God inspired, without error, and the final authority on all matters on which it speaks.

As the Bible teaches, there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each possessing all the attributes of deity.

Salvation comes only through God’s grace, not human effort, and must be received personally by repentance and faith.

God created humans to have fellowship with Him, but they defied God by sinfully going their own way. As a result, we need God’s saving grace to end our alienation from Him.

Jesus Christ, second Person of the Trinity, lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying on the Cross as our substitute. This accomplished salvation for all who receive grace by trusting in Him alone. He rose from the dead and is the only mediator between God and us. He baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit. He will return to earth to consummate history.
